The New Moon in Pisces happens at 3:46 pm EST today (Friday, March 4). I know I didn’t feel like getting out of bed today! I was having delicious dreams and the thought of coming out into the cold light of an early March day in Michigan…well, it was warm between those covers and the colors in my dreamscape were much more vibrant and inviting.
Pisces likes to sleep because sleep is the portal to the dream world. Pisces also likes to drink, do drugs and daydream, since these are also portals to the astral realm. And pure or rehabilitated Pisces likes to meditate, make art, sing, dance and play music because – yes – these are also portals to the imaginal realms.
Since Pisces is where we connect to the collective soul, a good practice for today’s New Moon is to look at that connection in your own life. If you know the house where Pisces falls in your chart, you can look at the life area signified by that house to help you tune in further. I do this for you in your solar chart in this week’s horoscopes.
New Moons always ask us to let go of something we’ve outgrown. This may be a relationship or a pattern of relating (Virgo – New Moon in your solar 7th House). It may be a source of income that is no longer suitable (Aquarius – New Moon in your solar 2nd House) or more likely a belief or thought pattern about money that isn’t working for you anymore.
Pisces is notoriously fluid, slippery, hard to define so the work with this New Moon is likely going to proceed best when you approach it peripherally, with eyes slightly unfocused, perhaps with trance-inducing music playing in the background (or in your headphones). Look for impressions, symbols, synchronicities, pictures that pop out at you from a magazine or billboard or web page that seem especially compelling for some reason. (I’m not talking about cunningly designed advertising images that are especially compelling for all the wrong reasons!)
Then let yourself be curious. Ask your creative unconscious mind, “What does this image mean to me on a deeper level? Why am I so drawn to this thought or those words?”
Then – and this is the tricky part for the modern post-industrial consumer psyche – let yourself drift and turn your attention elsewhere. Trust (a big Pisces theme) that the connection will appear when you’ve forgotten all about the original question. Maybe it will come in a conversation later tonight. Maybe in a memory that pops into your mind in the shower tomorrow morning. Perhaps in another billboard that completes the half-formed sentence in your mind as you’re driving to church on Sunday. In a movie scene or a fragment from a dream.
If we are to become the next incarnation of humanity in a positive way, we must learn how to work with the soul in the soul’s own language. This is the lesson of Pisces and the challenge of today’s New Moon. A challenge we will meet best when we allow ourselves to approach it with curiosity, playfulness, and a certain bit of disregard for logic and linear thinking.

I will remain curious, with an open heart to hear the language of my soul.
Heart, love and soul is my language too.
